Mecca for Little Girls

Not even one yet, and Addie has already made it through the doors of the American Girl store! What a place! If you aren't familiar with this company, these are books and dolls for young girls based on fictional characters from American history. The phenomena started as great books, then grew into a series of dolls of the main book characters, and now it has exploded with dolls to look just like their little girl owners.

This store is huge! Two stories- probably about 5,000 square feet. You can of course buy a doll here- pick hair, eye, and skin color to match the owner, but you can also buy matching outfits for doll and owner, and doll accesories that would blow your mind (we saw crutches and a fake cast for the doll)! You can bring your doll and your friends and their dolls for a birthday party. There is a photo studio so you can have your picture taken with your doll. It is little girl heaven.

We HAD to visit the "Addy" area. This set of books is based on a little girl from 1864; her escape from slavery and life in the north.

Addie meets Addy.

This is the American Girl Salon area. Yes, you can bring your doll in and have her styled by professionals. There were four stylists working non-stop the entire time we were there. Greg heard that there was a one hour line waiting for this service.

What an experience! Posted by Picasa

I still haven't made it to that store, although it would be a lot of fun! I actually make 18" doll clothes now! I've made a couple of "princess dresses", but have many more in the plans. Take a look at my new blog that I dedicated to my sewing: sewtiny.blogspot.com. Oh, and I have news on my regular blog...
