Well, our lives these days have been filled with mucous and whining. Just when we thought we were beating down the cold from last week, Addie broke out in a new fever that eventually led us to another visit with the pediatrician. He said it was just a rotten cold (yeah! Not the flu!) and that I had the same no doubt (since I'm sick too), and that I could expect Addie's fever to last a few more days. So we're bearing down and waiting it out. Greg has managed to dodge the bullet, yet again, which is great and terribly unfair all at the same time. So that's where we stand.
And a little update to our "Rest and Relief" post.... no sooner had I posted and we settled in to watch John Wayne, did Addie awake in quite a state. She had developed a terrible cough that continually woke her and we eventually spent the night taking turns holding her and visiting the drugstore in pajamas. Oh what fun. At least Greg was home to help and we made it through!
In the brief break we had between last week's colds and this week's, we were thrilled to spend some time with our friend Beth Mack. Beth used to be a neighbor to us until she up and moved to South Africa. She stays very busy there working in a local church and at a ministry that cares for orphans with HIV. Anyway, while she was here visiting she graciously gave us a whole evening for us to enjoy her company!
The most shocking part of her visit was definetly Addie's response to Beth. Sure, we think Addie is great, but let's be honest here people, she's not exactly warm and fuzzy to outsiders. Or really family members even (as demonstrated by aversions to Greg's mom, my sister, and the list goes on). When someone comes over, we expect her to be polite, but we NEVER expect that she'll be buddies with them. In her defense, she's just more of a let-me-check-you-out-and-warm-up-to-you-slowly kind of gal. So anyway, Greg and I just about fainted when Addie came up to Beth, unsolicited, reached up to her, and when Beth asked, "do you want me to pick you up?", she said "yep." We actually ran to get the camera, it was so shocking.
Evidently, Addie is a good judge of character and knew Beth was GOOD STUFF. She went to bed that night after praying for "Miss Mack" and when I got her up the next morning the first thing she did was ask where was Miss Mack. The asking continued all day long. So Beth, if you're reading this, you have a new president of your fan club. We're really glad you visited and hope you didn't catch our colds!
